Sundance Mountain Resort has a rich and interesting history, it was created by Robert Redford after he acquired the land in this area in 1969. Located 13 miles northeast of Provo Sundance sits on over 5,000 acres of protected wilderness right on the Mount Timpanogos slopes. Redford discovered the area while shooting a movie in Utah, after driving through Provo Canyon he decided that he loved it and wanted a piece of his own. Redford started out by buying a couple acres of land and building a cabin, but he felt strongly about preserving the area and preventing development so he started building a community there that blended in with the natural environment and combined his two loves of nature and art. First he built a restaurant (now award-winning), called “The Tree Room.” The next development here was the ampitheatre. In 1979 Redford organized a 3-day conference for artists and filmmakers at the Resort, this was the beginnings of the now famous Sundance Film Festival.

Today there are many activities and additions here to be entertained year round including an Alpine zip line, scenic lift rides, 25+ miles of lift-serviced biking, over 10 miles of alpine trails of varying levels of difficulty, fly fishing, horseback riding, teen and kids camps, art studio classes, a spa which includes massage services, wellness retreats, and regular classes. There’s also a ski & snowboard school, a ski/snowboard shop, a Nordic Center, a Terrain park for freestyle skiing and snowboarding. In addition, there’s regular events hosted at the Ampitheatre including music concerts and theatre performances. Since its beginnings Sundance Mountain Resort has also collected quite a few awards, in 2010 it was rated #8 for the top 50 Ski Hotels in Conde Nast Traveler’s.

Real Estate options here consist of vacant lots, condos, and single-family homes that range widely from tiny cabins to luxury custom estates. Some of the homes here are ski/in/ski out while others are within walking distance to lifts. Bedrooms range from studios to 8 bedrooms sized from 355 to 8,448 square feet. Lot sizes range from .03 to 4 acres.
